Hier eine sehr gute Info zum Thema “Cross-plattform Mobile Webapps” — der Autor des jetzt vorgestellten jQuery Mobile hat sich mit den Problemen der verschiedenen Plattformen und Browser befasst (und dem Testing) wenn man für diese Web Apps entwickelt (statt native Apps):

Google unterstützt künftig den IE 6 (Internet Explorer 6) nicht mehr!

Na, das nenne ich mal gute Nachrichten: Google wird künftig den Support für den Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6) auslaufen lassen. Dies betrifft natürlich nicht die Website, d.h. die Google Suche, sondern das Angebot “Google Apps”.

Hier die Mail, die Google an die Accountinhaber von Google Apps versendet hat:

Dear Google Apps admin,

In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements in web browser technology. This includes faster JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5. As a result, over the course of 2010, we will be phasing out support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 ​as well as other older browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers.

We plan to begin phasing out support of these older browsers on the Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor on March 1, 2010. After that point, certain functionality within these applications may have higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers. Later in 2010, we will start to phase out support for these browsers for Google Mail and Google Calendar.

Google Apps will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and above.

Starting this week, users on these older browsers will see a message in Google Docs and the Google Sites editor explaining this change and asking them to upgrade their browser. We will also alert you again closer to March 1 to remind you of this change.

In 2009, the Google Apps team delivered more than 100 improvements to enhance your product experience. We are aiming to beat that in 2010 and continue to deliver the best and most innovative collaboration products for businesses.

Was daran so positiv ist: Wenn ein Unternehmen mit einer solchen Marktstellung eine solche Entscheidung fällt, folgen hoffentlich weitere. Ferner können Dritte (z.B. <eigenwerbung>Internetagenturen oder CMS Anbieter</eigenwerbung>) sich im Kundengespräch hierauf beziehen und so dem Kunden erhebliche Mehraufwände für den Support dieses in der Tat miserablen nicht mehr zeitgemäßen Browsers ersparen.

Kurzmitteilung – daher ohne Übersetzung und ohne lange Texte. Doch soviel sei gesagt: Ansehen lohnt sich :-)

Using ThemeRoller

ThemeRoller allows you to design custom jQuery UI themes for tight integration in your projects. To create a custom theme, select the Roll your own tab and tweak the settings. As you work, the UI components to the right will update to reflect your design and you can download your theme whenever you like.

If you’d like to use a pre-designed theme, select the Theme Gallery tab and choose from one of the themes in the gallery. You can choose to download or customize any theme from there. To save a theme for later, simply bookmark or copy the URL.

Great AJAX / JavaScript Effects / Scripts, anyone?

Gerade über Jans Website gefunden: Unter nettuts.com findet sich eine Liste von in der Tat sehr hübschen JavaScript bzw. AJAX Scripts nebst Beispielen. Besonders nett sind m.E. folgende:

  • Nummer 1 / Autocompletion
  • Nummer 2 / AJAX IM Client
  • Nummer 5 / AJAX Upload und Nummer 6 “Fancy Upload”
  • Nummer 12 / Gallery

…aber streng genommen sind alle dort gezeigten Scripts einen Blick wert ;-)
